Museums & Public Opinion 2017 examines the responses of more than 2,000 Americans to the following four questions:

  • Are museums educational for children and adults in their communities?
  • Do you think that museums contribute to their community’s economy?
  • If an elected official took legislative action to support museums in your community, how would that affect your opinion of them?
  • Should federal funding for museums be increased, stay the same, decreased, or reduced to zero?

Conducted jointly by AAM and Susie Wilkening‘s Wilkening Consulting, the study was fielded by the market research experts at Ipsos. The results overwhelmingly demonstrate the high degree to which Americans believe in and support their museums, regardless of political affiliation, geographic location, and whether they visit museums or not.
